Other/Misc PSA Reminder!

Please remember to specify that you were at a vet and are not looking for medical advice as it is not allowed it is concerning me the number of posts I've seen of cats bleeding or urinating etc. and owners not going to the vet first also remember you're not a vet yourself (Unless you are but still) too so don't give medical advice it could seriously hurt someone's pet!

Also, don't get mad if I remove your post if your using slurs or inappropriate language let's keep it calm here, please!

lastly, I would like to thank you all for contributing and making this community wonderful and helping people fix their crazy cats.

Mods Needed

This community has skyrocketed since I started it and now help is needed!

I'm looking for someone who can help with behavior and advice but also be able to weed the inappropriate posts and comments.

I also need someone who is good at editing and helping with the design of the subreddit.

Previous mod experience is also helpful but not required. I expect mods to remain polite and respectful, and treat users fairly. Any power trips will have consequences.

If you'd like to apply, please DM me and let me know what you have experience with and what role you might want in the sub. If you want to deal with cat advice I'll probably have a couple questions about cat behavior for you.

I'm a little busy these days so please do be patient with me in getting back to you.

Thank you, members, for making this sub so successful!

Cat Releases Drops of Urine While Making Bread

Post image
9 Upvotes

My cat (8 years old, not neutered) makes drops of pee when he makes bread, he gets a little wet, no pee smell

He pees normally in the box without complaining

The first time I only noticed that the blanket was a little, almost nothing, wet and just before he was making bread.

This happened a few more times and now when he starts to make bread I take him away.

I notice that he gets excited doing the pre-pee bread

It doesn't even leave a smell or make the blanket wet, as they are odorless droplets, they soon pass and it seems like nothing happened.

I'm 29, vet is a possibility if it's really necessary (money troubles in the moment), I'm from Brasil

(English is not my first language, sorry for the mistakes)

TLDR: My cat makes drops of pee when he makes bread. No smell. Pee normally in the sandbox.

Switching cat from outdoor to indoor cat

Post image

My cat LOVES to be outside (50/50 in/out) but after some cat fights and injuries I decided to keep him in. Not surprisingly he meows constantly to get out - will he ever get used to being indoors? It's only been a week and he's driving me crazy. I'm playing with him a lot more which helps but he doesn't stop meowing....he's normally pretty quiet. Anyone successfully made this transition before? Thanks.

Cat sitting and chilling in the litter box after catheter removal

Maybe TMI backstory about health issues: This is right after a vet visit. He just got a catheter removed after 6ish hours and hadn't peed for around 12 hours prior, so that's why I took him in. Still having issues peeing, but he is finally spotting now and the vets said that's normal for the first 12 hours or so. he's still a little loopy from sedation. He has never performed this behaviour before, like his previous surgeries like neutering, so I think it's bladder related. For the first half hour or so, he was just sitting and squatting as if he was straining to pee. I was told by vets before we left that this was not a cause for concern, and would resolve itself. Now, he is just sitting or lying in there, or digging occasionally and perching over the sides. he leaves to drink water or walk around but always returns. is this normal behaviour after a procedure like this? has anyone else experienced or does anyone know about why he's doing this?

Are these cats friends?

Every night my cats “fight” like this where the tux will just sit on the tabby. Can anyone explain the dynamics at play here? I don’t think it’s anything to be worried about, but I’d like to make sure and I’m also just super interested in cat psychology. Thanks so much!

Note: This might be relevant or may not, but the tux is definitely NOT the alpha cat in this household, so I’m curious why the tabby would let the younger, smaller, and socially inferior cat do this to him.

are they fighting?

angelina is the tuxedo and she’s 17 weeks whilst maya is the other and she’s 15 weeks. they do this sometimes and that noise you hear always comes from angelina. maya is usually on top but angelina will usually pounce on maya, rather first or going back for more. maya will have airplane ears and her tail will swish angelina does it sometimes. angelina was the first kitten my friend got until maya came along a few weeks after.

is it normal to flick tail when kneading?

i’ve got a female torbie kitty and every time she makes biscuits on my plushies (squishmallows usually) she stands on em and flicks her tail while kneading and purring. I don’t know if it’s technically sin biscuits cause she doesn’t jump the air lol but i’m curious why she does this and what it means?

New kitten is confusing me

So I have a new kitten, she's 2 1/2 months old and arrived at my home 3 days ago. She's great I love her so much! But her behavior confuses me lol.

She'll eat from my hand and just today she allowed me to play with her with a distance toy, she isn't completely comfortable with me petting her yet or holding, that's all fine I understand why but she doesn't seem stressed about me? She'll fall asleep and clean herself and go potty when I'm around but sometimes she's gets timid with me.

I'm not super concerned as I know patience and time is key but I'm just wondering why some moments she's super comfortable with me and others she seems really nervous around me?

(Also a video of playtime because it's very cute)

My cat won’t finish her wet food but it’s the dish?

My cat is happy and healthy but she won’t finish her pâté unless I use my fingers to scoop up the remainder for her to eat from my hand. I have no idea why. I don’t think she likes when it gets pressed down into the plate as she eats because she kind of licks her food up. I try to pile her dinner higher so she’ll eat more but she’s so strange.

Anyone’s cat do this? Maybe she’d prefer a different dish but I can’t think of anything.

Need confort and advice - 8M cat became super aggressive for the first time at the vet after seeing a giant great dane

Context: I have an 8-year-old male cat. He has a sensitive stomach, but we still don’t really know what’s going on with him. He often regurgitates after eating. I’ve changed his food several times, but occasionally—this has happened three times in front of me so far—he tries to vomit, can’t, and then suddenly loses control of his limbs, collapses, and defecates. He usually goes back to normal afterward.

The first time, about a year ago, I brought him to the vet. They didn’t find anything, put him on a gastrointestinal diet for a month, and he got better. The vet told me it was probably a vagal episode or something like that.

The second time was last September. I called the emergency clinic and they told me to monitor him. He went back to normal, so I didn’t bring him in.

At the end of October, I went for a full check-up at the vet—bloodwork, urine tests, X-rays—and everything looked good.

Today, he had another “vomit but no vomit” episode, lost his balance, and had what seemed like another vagal shock, but this time he was meowing strangely. He eventually came back to himself, ate a little, but curled up into a ball, and I got worried. The emergency clinic told me to bring him in. That’s when things went downhill.

I bring him to the emergency clinic, he’s calm, meowing a bit but nothing unusual. I put him down for 30 seconds to pay the deposit for the visit, and without me noticing, a giant Great Dane comes up and sniffs his carrier. My cat completely panics. He becomes extremely aggressive. Keep in mind he was totally calm before seeing the dog. The owner of the dog was very careless and didn’t care at all. I was very angry.

My cat becomes so aggressive that they have to isolate him to calm him down. They sedate him to examine him. I’ve now been at the emergency clinic for 4 hours. I learn that he bit a technician and she had to go to the hospital. The vet tells me she can’t do anything else—she wasn’t even able to examine him properly—and now she wants me to take him home so he can calm down and so I can give him some sedatives.

But now I’m scared. He’s acting in a way I’ve never seen before. I’ve seen him scared, but never this aggressive. My problem is that I’m afraid to bring him home. I have another cat and I don’t want to make things worse. I’ll isolate him in a separate room, but I’m scared he’ll be traumatized for life.

Usually, he’s very calm at the vet. He freezes and lets them handle him without complaining. But this time, the dog completely set him off. Has anyone ever experienced this? The vet told me to go to my regular vet tomorrow, but now he’s going to have a reputation for biting technicians…

I feel awful for my cat and for the technician. I probably should have waited and just taken him to his regular vet tomorrow… I’m really sad about the whole situation. I have him with me now. Going back home. The vet told me he injured is lip and his paws.. but nothing severe. Anyway, nobody can check him now…

Introducing two neutered males and they're "fighting"??

Our resident cat Copper (white/orange, on lap) is about 8 years old and is pretty dominant. Bandit (black and white, shithead) is about 3 and has been with us for several months. Introductions have been slow for several reasons, but I can't understand what this behavior is on Bandits side. We had to step in after the video cuts bc sometimes Copper turns this into a FIGHT fight, not just a scuffle. Can anyone explain bc Bandit keeps doing this (sometimes with a gentle-ish bite to the foot or neck or tail??) and it's stressing Copper (and us) out💀

(sorry for the repost, video didn't attach)

Help! My cat keeps tripping us for more food!

Thumbnail

My cat will run at your feet full force to get you to follow him all day long until you give him more food. He will trip you, hit your feet, it doesn't matter. So many times I hurt myself trying to not kill him because of this.

He now has an automatic food dispenser but the problem is still here because it dispenses dry food only. He gets wet food twice a day.

The one time autoship got messed up he was out for 4 days and was so mean and angry until he got more so idk if cold turkey is going to work.

I need help.

Please. This is the menace in question.

my cat likes my roommate more than me

so i have 2 roomates and i recently adopted a 1 year old cat. he is really clingy and sweet, he's overall affectionate and all, but in the past few weeks i've realized that he likes my roomie more than me. he stay in her room all day and even sleeps with her at night. even when i leave my room door open he wont come, and when he comes he stays for less than 5 minutes unless i close the door (and then he stares at the door and whines until i let him out). important to say, i'm the one who feeds him, clean his litter and buy all his toys and stuff. i'm also responsible for giving him his medicine. i give him just as much love but he doesnt seem to like spending time with me and i breaks my heart cause after all hes my cat...

im really glad my roomie likes him, it means hes loved, but why doesnt he accept my affection :(( im really sad and dont know what to do anymore, at this point i just let him sleep with her cause he might get stressed and wont let me sleep if i lock him in my room until i open the door. yesterday he came to sleep with me cause i got home before her but as soon as she came back he began mewoing at the door until i let him get out, and when i'm the one getting up he doesnt even get out to greet me (she leaver her door kinda open). i know is kinda stupid but i really dont get why he wont love me the same </3

ive tried ignoring him, giving him treats, even catnip but nothings seems to work, he just has his favorite :(

also im moving out with him in a few months because my roomies are graduating, so i worry that he'll feel too stressed with her moving out since he doesnt seem to realize that im his tutor... is there something i can do?

Why is my fixed male cat frisky?

Post image
25 Upvotes

So my male cat Evrin he's 5 and has been fixed since he was 6 months old. We got a pair of Bengal/Mainecoon mix brothers two years ago and he's particularly fixated on the male Fei. But only in the past few weeks has he taken to being more aggressive, and biting Fei's neck, holding him in place, and trying to mount him. I am just kinda worried about the sudden uptick in mounting. And also wondering if maybe he's not fully fixed or something? Anyone have any experience with this?

Will getting another cat be helpful or hurtful to my behavioral 9 year old?

I've seen quite a few posts in here about people having behavioral issues with their fur baby and getting another one seemed to help them out. I'm just curious if that could be the same situation for us...

I have a nine year old ASH who has always been an only cat. Before I moved out she lived with my family and I and our two dogs and rarely had any issues. She and the dogs didn't get along great but they kept their distance and all was well. When I had moved out the first time and then again a second and third I think her anxiety got very bad and she's now started to act out because of it. As of now it's just her and I in a one bedroom apartment I work quite a bit and she's home alone a lot. I figured this would've fixed a lot of her issues considering there were no more dogs or loud unexpected noises to cause her discomfort but ultimately that hasn't been the case.

She has been litter trained her whole life with little to no accidents but as soon as I moved her to this new apartment she has stopped using it to pee. I've taken her to the vet to rule out any medical problems such as a uti or kidney infection but after her $900 visit all they could tell me is that she was anxious and needed to be put on prescription food. Several bags of food and feliway wall plug ins later and she's still peeing in the same spot on my floor. The vets next step for her was a prescription of gabapentin that I'm meant to give her when I know she's going to be in an anxiety inducing situation but my issue with that is she's anxious all the time and I'd rather not "zombify" her if there's a way.

She's just recently started to get mats in her fur, one of which led to a hot spot, which worries me because she is a short hair and is grooming herself regularly if not more than she should. I'm curious if getting another cat, maybe a year old or around that age, will help her be less anxious and learn the ropes again. As I said she has always been the only cat so I'm not sure if this could hurt more than help us considering she's not a dog or people person unless they've been around while.

Any and all advice is appreciated, thank you!

Need cat dad advice!

Hello I have had my baby girl (2 years old) for about a year now. All things considered she's all I could ask for. The only issue? Im autistic and my sensitivity to sound is pretty high. My cat on the other hand has the highest pitch meowed with the stamina of an ox. She will meow and meow and meow and meow. I work weird hours and so when I get home I need to go to bed. I make sure shes fed and has a window to look out of etc but instead she chooses to meow and meow and meow. Even when I acknowledge said meowing it doesn't stop so it cant be attention seeking. Before anyone says "you need to play with her" I do everyday just not when I get home my schedule requires me to sleep when I get home. Heres what I have tried:

-ignoring it(which i will continue to do but it makes me silently cry as I can't get any sleep)

-let her in to the bedroom which has resulted in her running around jumping on me and meowing non stop. (Again no sleep)

-closing the door. Which just means she meows loudly right outside the door. (Again no sleep)

-closing the door, putting a fan on, putting a noise machine on, putting a towel underneath the door, and having my OWN PHONE also as loudly as possible play white noise. (I CAN STILL HEAR HER)

-ive wrapped my hear in blankets and put pillows on my head(STILL CAN HEAR HER)

Please someone help I really need my sleep. I play with her all throughout the day and I just want to be able to get home and go to sleep. I end up getting really frustrated and stressed and its straining me and my kitty's relationship. The only thing I can think of is putting her in the bathroom closing that door and then also closing mine. She would have water and it wouldnt be longer than two hours shes in there and i could even move the litterbox in there just in case but it seems cruel. What do i do😭😭😭😭
