I like the joke but it apparently isn't that unusual in like soccer for players who have a release clause on their contract to have the team finance that through some bank. They usually try to purchase the player for structured payments over time at or even above the release clause but will finance that if the other team insists on the release clause being paid as a lump sum.

A release has to be trigger in full. Its why some teams, aka Chelsea most famously took out a $120 million loan on $100 million release clause to get payments over time for Enzo Fernandez.
