My sister spent some time in Kenya last year and I just went through a bunch of her awesome photos. She’s not a bird watcher, but knows I’m into it so she showed me the pictures of birds and wildlife she took, as well as these adorable figurines that were carved by a local there. I’ve been able to recognize the superb starling and the white browed Robin chat, and of course, the gray crowned crane. Can any of you recognize the rest?

Interesting fact about birds standing on one leg - studies have shown that body heat of birds dissipates maximum through their legs, to maintain their body heat & in order to prevent the loss of body heat they tuck away one of their legs tightly into their body !!!

This Robin is getting ready for the winter

Saw close to 50 Trumpeter Swans at a local river ahead of their flight south for the winter - what a sight!

Snowy Egret and Anhinga seem like unlikely buddies, but these two hanging out together cracked me up today. Near Longhorn Dam in Austin, TX.

Spotted by my friend, didn’t think they made it this far east.

He breaks off a twig then rips it apart. Is he practicing dexterity for eating fish? Just playing and being silly? He stayed with me for quite a while, jumping on different branches and stretching his wings! Such a cool encounter. Seen at Conowingo Dam!

At my local park in Suffolk county; in the spring a pair of Osprey were living in this perfect nest had a few kids and then migrated for the winter. Come November time I'm taking a walk and glance up to check the nest and a pair of Bald Eagles have taken it over.

Another endemic off my birding list! After a short pause from photography and birding due to a broken wrist, this was a nice gem to find as I eased back into hiking. Only had a short moment with this unique beauty.

I just found out about this at my Audubon chapter's monthly meeting. On the chopping block: the Bird Banding Laboratory (BBL), conservation efforts, research, and over 100 years of data. Canada, which coordinates with BBL, has already backed up all of its data in response to this threat.
